[08:25:29] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> Debian Trixie released : https://lists.debian.org/debian-announce/2025/msg00003.html
[11:01:22] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> Wtf ?! There's "no support" (no installer or kernel) for Trixie for 32 bits ?!?!
[11:02:05] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> >i386 is no longer supported as a regular architecture: there is no official kernel and no Debian installer for i386 systems. The i386 architecture is now only intended to be used on a 64-bit (amd64) CPU. Users running i386 systems should not upgrade to trixie. Instead, Debian recommends either reinstalling them as amd64, where possible, or retiring the hardware
[11:59:16] <Cippr> Aleks (he/him/il/lui): Bonjour, il y a des liens mais qui arrivent sur du 404 ...
[11:59:59] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> heu, tu parles de quoi en particulier ?

[12:56:56] <tituspijean[m]> > <@Alekswag:matrix.org> Wtf ?! There's "no support" (no installer or kernel) for Trixie for 32 bits ?!?!

That's a sad move from the people branding their OS "The Universal Operating System" one paragraph above 😕
[13:01:15] <orhtej2> 'The last desktop x86 CPUs released without 64-bit instructions enabled were Pentium 4 "Prescott" on Socket 775 however technically those were 64-bit capable CPUs with some instructions disabled.'

I had that CPU. 20 years ago.

Good riddance IMO
[13:02:20] <orhtej2> (aka any CPU manufactured within the last 20 years is capable of running x64 variant and most of YNH catalog is incompatible with x86 anyways)

[18:46:26] <Josué> Hello, I was thinking to add some additional filter in jinja for the config helper. The idea would be to have some filter like `from_json` so we can have a var with a string and we can use from the template directly the structured data. Currently in jinja to use a for loop by example we use the split function of Python but sometimes it's not a really strong solution. So it's why I think that adding some filter would be great. What do you think ?
[18:47:31] <Josué> And I saw that in the core we still use the helper v1 for the hook should we migrate it to v2.1 ?
[18:50:07] <Josué> And related to this it seem that the template `ynh_render_template` was removed, should we modernize it with j2 CLI and restore it in helper v2.1 ?
[18:50:28] <Josué> What do you think about this ?
[19:11:36] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> hmmm there's the --jinja option in ynh_config_add ?
[19:11:51] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> if i remember correctly it uses j2cli
[19:12:04] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> dunno if we can add filters in it
[19:13:06] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> ```
usage: j2 [-h] [-v] [-f {?,ini,json,yaml,env}] [-e VAR] [--filters python-file [python-file ...]] [--tests python-file [python-file ...]]
[--customize python-file.py] [--undefined] [-o outfile]
template [data]

Command-line interface to Jinja2 for templating in shell scripts.

[...]
--filters python-file [python-file ...]
Load custom Jinja2 filters from a Python file: all top-level functions are imported.
```
[19:13:08] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> :o noice
[19:13:15] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> Josué: lgtm
[19:16:45] <Josué> And about the hook of the core what do you think about reworking the old
`ynh_render_template` helper with j2cli in the helper 2.1 ?
[19:17:43] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> i think the main issue is adapting the core helpers which are using it
[19:17:44] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> but ideally that would be good yeah
[19:17:46] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> (assuming no apps rely on ynh_render_template)
[19:19:22] <Josué> > <@Alekswag:matrix.org> (assuming no apps rely on ynh_render_template)
Well as it's currently not in the helper 2.1 we won't so a braking change. For now it seem to be removed in helper 2.1
[19:19:42] <Josué> > <@Alekswag:matrix.org> i think the main issue is adapting the core helpers which are using it
What do you mean ?
[19:19:49] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> hmm
[19:19:49] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> ah
[19:20:47] <Josué> > <@josue:tille.ch> Well as it's currently not in the helper 2.1 we won't so a braking change. For now it seem to be removed in helper 2.1
But maybe it was removed for a good reason and we don't want to add it again...
[19:20:51] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> urgh i think the core is still using helpers 2.0 and ideally they should be upgraded to 2.1 (and then there's existential questions about the fact that apps may add regenconf hooks which also expect helpers 2.1 T_T)
[19:20:52] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> anywayyy
[19:21:21] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> i misunderstood that it was about reintroducing the helper but meh, what's the motivation compared to using ynh_config_add --jinja ?
[19:25:19] <Josué> > <@Alekswag:matrix.org> urgh i think the core is still using helpers 2.0 and ideally they should be upgraded to 2.1 (and then there's existential questions about the fact that apps may add regenconf hooks which also expect helpers 2.1 T_T)
Ah yes, good question, on my apps to use helper v2.1 in the hook I just added the env var `YNH_HELPERS_VERSION=2.1` so I can specify the helper version. I think we can do the same for the core hook
[19:27:09] <Josué> > <@Alekswag:matrix.org> i misunderstood that it was about reintroducing the helper but meh, what's the motivation compared to using ynh_config_add --jinja ?
I think the issue with this one for the core is that there are many stuff which is not needed by example the checksum for the changes.
[19:30:24] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> zblerg yeah but we could find a way to identify that we're in a regenconf context and not run those part mayb
[19:33:28] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> in fact maybe the core regen conf should not load the app helpers at all ... i'm looking at it and apart from ynh\_render\_template, it's only using them a handful times :
```
./43-dnsmasq:69: ynh_validate_ip4 "$ipv4" || ipv4='127.0.0.1'
./43-dnsmasq:71: ynh_validate_ip6 "$ipv6" || ipv6=''
./35-postgresql:34: ynh_die --message="..."
./35-postgresql:50: ynh_systemd_action --service_name=postgresql --action=restart
./35-postgresql:59: ynh_string_random > "$PSQL_ROOT_PWD_FILE"
./35-postgresql:71: ynh_replace_string --match_string="local\(\s*\)all\(\s*\)all\(\s*\)peer" --replace_string="local\1all\2all\3md5" --target_file="$pg_hba"
./35-postgresql:73: ynh_systemd_action --service_name=postgresql --action=reload
```
[19:34:37] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> `ynh_validate_ip*` could be copypasted in the file, ynh_die is just `echo` + `exit 1`, `ynh_systemd_action` is just systemctl in other core hooks, and replace_string can be a sed etc
[19:34:54] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> (i suppose it's just that historically the postgresql bits are from the helpers)
[19:35:29] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> but i digress
[19:58:43] <Josué> In this case maybe we should create a set of core helper somewhere else.
