[07:04:24]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> I tried this, but I only advanced to a new kind of failure. Here is the log: https://paste.yunohost.org/raw/bodayukimu
Looks like it still complains about no module named pkg_resources
Can you help me figure out what went wrong? Is it related to there having been a fix here: https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-synapse-ldap3/issues/199 ?
[08:12:27]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> In the log, theline isn't modified :
`2026-02-11 07:21:31,826: DEBUG - + /var/www/synapse/venv/bin/pip3 install --upgrade setuptools wheel pip cffi`
[08:13:03]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> We need to check command by command, maybe a right access issue.
[08:20:11]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> Ah - OK.. Should I have done it as su instead of sudo?
[08:21:14]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> Possibly. I just saw, I forgot to advise to do a copy of the .tar somewhere, just to be safer.
[08:21:37]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> What should that line (pip3 install --upgrade setuptools wheel pip cffi) be modified to? I might have misunderstood the guide in your forum-post
[08:24:07]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> in my apps/synapse/settings/scripts/_common.sh
it now says:
# Install synapse in virtualenv
local pip3="$install_dir/venv"/bin/pip3
$pip3 install 'setuptools==80.9.0'
$pip3 install --upgrade wheel pip cffi
$pip3 install --upgrade -r "$YNH_APP_BASEDIR/conf/requirement_$(lsb_rel>
[08:28:59]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> <del>How is it in /etc/yunohost/apps/synapse/scripts/\_common.sh ?</del>
Stupîd question, your are trying to restore, it should not be anywhere.
[08:30:50]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> Maybe the _common.sh was taken from the cache of the previous attempt. I see in the log : `Executing command '['sh', '-c', '/bin/bash -x "/var/cache/yunohost/app_tmp_work_dirs/app_t2218omn/restore" 7>&1']'`
[08:31:01]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> I am not sure I understand. I followed your guide here: https://forum.yunohost.org/t/synapse-restoration-fail-on-pkg-resources-error-linked-to-ldap-auth-plugin/41530 but might have misstepped along the way?
[08:31:55]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> ah! Can I clear the cache then and retry, or is that dangerous?
[08:32:41]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> Cause modification is short, I'd be safe by modifying it.
First check if it is there.
[08:33:41]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> Sorry for being such a n00b - but.. what is the command to check that?
[08:36:49]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> That's me, I'm not clear, and not sure, and a bit tired...
Is there anything in `ls-al /var/cache/yunohost/app_tmp_work_dirs/`
[08:38:02]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> sudo ls -al /var/cache/yunohost/app_tmp_work_dirs/
totalt 36
drwxr-xr-x 9 root root 4096 11 feb 09:17 .

[08:38:28]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> Don't worry. I'm learning a lot here :)
[08:42:17]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> Well, it seems, we are looking for a ghost.
When you say : in my `apps/synapse/settings/scripts/_common.sh` it's ok.
Which place is it ? In the folder you did the modifications after tar extract and before tar update ?
Or in /etc/yunohost/apps/synapse/settings/scripts/_common.sh
[08:45:27]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> when I try sudo nano /etc/yunohost/apps/synapse/settings/scripts/_common.sh I get "doesn't exist"
So it must be the first one.
When I do:
sudo nano apps/synapse/settings/scripts/_common.sh I get the file with the contents.
[08:49:41]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> should I try to clear the cache and see if it will fix anything?
[08:51:35]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> So, normal.
We gonna check if the \_common.sh modified as been back to the .tar file.
Let's do a `tar -xOf MYARCHIVE.tar apps/synapse/settings/scripts/_common.sh`
Normally it should screen output the content of \_common.sh and if it succeed, you gonna have 2 version of the .sh. The original first and the modified. Gonna be a bit hard to read cause long...
If too hard to read, maybe add at the end of the command `| grep setuptools`
[08:51:59]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> OK - Many thanks! It is running now. Fingers crossed :)
[08:54:38]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> I only get setuptools in one place:
# Install synapse in virtualenv
local pip3="$install_dir/venv"/bin/pip3
$pip3 install --upgrade setuptools wheel pip cffi
$pip3 install --upgrade -r "$YNH_APP_BASEDIR/conf/requirement_$(lsb_release --codename --short).txt"
[08:57:19]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> That mean that the --upgrade of the .tar didn't succeed at first.
I prefer like that, this is not a ghost.
[08:59:16]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> phew!
Always prefer when there is indentifiable errors!
So should I just retry the --upgrade as root instead of sudo ?
[09:00:23]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> Yes, let's try root privileges.
[09:02:57]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> to be clear:
I run this part of your forum-guide: tar --update -f YOURBACKUP.tar apps/synapse/settings/scripts/_common.sh as su instead of sudo, right?
[09:03:51]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> sudo is fine.
[09:04:07]
<Carsten> You can just switch to being root
[09:04:25]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> or sudo su then command
[09:04:40]
<Carsten> `sudo su -` is safer.
[09:04:51]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> Ok - but is the command the right one?
[09:05:01]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> TY, Didn't know. gonna look at this.
[09:06:31]
<Carsten> Specifically `/sbin`.
[09:06:45]
<Carsten> The difference is that it sets up the user env correctly for root. If you just do `sudo su` it very often works fine, but sometimes the `PATH` may be missing stuff.
[09:07:59]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> It wouldn't let me update a compressed archive, so I'm doing it all from your guide again :)
[09:08:58]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> That's a .tar.gz ? I didn't take that into account. 😱
[09:12:40]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> interesting. When I did:
sudo nano apps/synapse/settings/scripts/_common.sh as root, the edit hadn't happened.
[09:13:51]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> I have both a synapse-pre-upgrade1.tar and a
synapse-pre-upgrade1.tar.gz
I've been working with the .tar all the time.
[09:15:03]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> We gonna need to unzip the .gz
[09:17:43]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> The .tar is there for compatibility reason for the GUI. The data should be in .tar.gz
[09:19:57]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> ah! Thanks :)
[09:20:44]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> First of all : `gunzip archive.tar.gz`
BE SURE the output say ok, I did the .tar
And then work on the .tar (like in forum post)
`gzip archive.tar`
BE URE the output say, I did a .gz.
[09:20:51]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> First of all : `gunzip archive.tar.gz`
BE SURE the output say ok, I did the .tar
And then work on the .tar (like in forum post)
`gzip archive.tar`
BE SURE the output say, I did a .gz.
[09:21:54]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> I says: synapse-pre-upgrade1.tar already exists; do you wish to overwrite (y or n)? is it OK to do?
[09:22:47]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> that yes except if you don't have any other copy of the 3 files .json, .tar, .tar.gz
[09:22:48]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> i assume yes?
[09:23:37]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> I have these for synapse-pre upgrade:
synapse-pre-upgrade1.info.json
synapse-pre-upgrade1.tar
synapse-pre-upgrade1.tar.gz
synapse-pre-upgrade1.tar.tar
[09:23:51]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> (the tar.tar must be a mistake from before)
[09:26:31]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> The .tar.tar, is strange be in doubt copy it too.
[09:27:12]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> Just in case, in case of hurricane in our process and for cool mind :
Copy your files in another DIR or anywhere you want. Cause, I don't trust computers and even less people behind computers.
At the end, it gonna be a ceremonial to delete the copied files.
[09:27:25]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> Super. I will copy all of it to my user ~/
[09:28:11]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> I'm going to update the forum post.
[09:33:12]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> now I have them all in a backup directory
[09:33:50]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> now I try gunzip archive.tar.gz in the original directory
[09:45:20]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> OK, I modified the forum post : https://forum.yunohost.org/t/synapse-restoration-fail-on-pkg-resources-error-linked-to-ldap-auth-plugin/41530
[09:46:25]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> I just hope that the gzip and gunzip don't need any special flag, cause I don't know a lot this.
[09:48:19]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> zipping the file again now.... Very excited to see if all works out :)
[09:49:53]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> when it's done should I then just send yunohost backup restore ARCHIVE.tar or yunohost backup restore ARCHIVE.tar.gz ?
[09:51:15]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> If you want to be sure the .tar is ok (and so the .gz if gzip is ok), you can check the _common.sh modifications by :
`tar -xOf YOURBACKUP.tar apps/synapse/settings/scripts/_common.sh | grep -e "setuptools" -e "wheel"`
[09:55:20]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> It should look like this :
```
$pip3 install --upgrade setuptools wheel pip cffi
$pip3 install 'setuptools==80.9.0'
$pip3 install --upgrade wheel pip cffi
```
The .tar file contain the 2 versions of the _common.sh file, but only the last one gonna be kept in restoration.
[09:56:13]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> Should be the same, .tar is fine for me, cause I know it work, .gz, I don't know much about that.
[10:00:26]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> Strange. I get:
synapse-pre-upgrade1.info.json
synapse-pre-upgrade1.tar.gz
synapse-pre-upgrade1.tar.tar
root@ynh:/home/yunohost.backup/archives# tar -xOf synapse-pre-upgrade1.tar.tar apps/synapse/settings/scripts/_common.sh | grep -e "setuptools" -e "wheel"
$pip3 install 'setuptools==80.9.0'
$pip3 install --upgrade wheel pip cffi
[10:01:53]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> Not like I though, but that's the right version. So, malesh.
[10:02:03]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> while same command on the .gz file gives the "correct" output:
root@ynh:/home/yunohost.backup/archives# tar -xOf synapse-pre-upgrade1.tar.gz apps/synapse/settings/scripts/_common.sh | grep -e "setuptools" -e "wheel"
$pip3 install --upgrade setuptools wheel pip cffi
$pip3 install 'setuptools==80.9.0'
$pip3 install --upgrade wheel pip cffi
[10:02:25]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> I'll go ahead with backup restore, then :)
[10:02:44]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> Ah, yeah. The 2 versions of the file aere there only if we look for the files. If we look for inside, then maybe the last one updates the first one. IDK...
[10:03:27]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> Forget previous, I didn't read your message qith the gz version
[10:04:10]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> running yunohost backup restore MYARCHIVE.tar.gz now
[10:04:15]
<Fritjof (backupkonto)> seems to be going OK
[10:06:06]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> I don't understand anything to the difference between the .tar output and the .gz output. Whatever, both are ok for our purpose.
[10:31:26]
<vtruche> > <@vtruche:tedomum.fr> Bonjour tout le monde,

Hello,
I try in english, french don't stimulate de thread ;-)
Some days ago my Nextcloud instance don't synchronise files, and most of them disapears.
- I did à scan with occ. With CLI I saw files are not in the Nextcloud data partition. I lost most of them.
- no warning logs in Yunohost
- in Nextcloud lot of : GenericFileException Exception thrown : OCP\Files\GenericFileException
Any idea ?
Thanks
[10:34:19]
<Salamandar> haha :D

<miro5001> Any **lightweight** document collaboration app to suggest (NC, overleaf, cryptpad are way over my needs)
[19:35:19]
<tituspijean> LaSuite-Docs?
[19:35:34]
<tituspijean> Depends on said needs :p
[19:39:44]
<rodinux> etherpads ?
[19:41:53]
<miro5001> Ah, I didn't give context : I am working with one of my students on a paper, so we'll exchange articles and write the paper, with comments
[19:58:16]
<Salamandar> yeah notes from lasuite might be what you want
[19:58:53]
<Salamandar> https://github.com/suitenumerique/docs
[20:07:15]
<miro5001> I'll have a look at it
[20:10:14]
<miro5001> Ah, dex is required
[20:10:35]
<miro5001> s3 storage too...
[20:12:43]
<trendless> what about a flat file wiki? Write in markdown, export as doc?
[20:24:41]
<miro5001> I don't think my student even heard about markdown.. wysiwyg is required
[20:25:23]
<miro5001> I'll test lasuite, it's been a while that I wanted to give a try
[21:20:32]
<Carsten> Is it still the situation that people shouldn't upgrade Synapse? Just so I don't go and do it now 🙂
[22:37:58]
<homelab-fr> Great choice! !
[22:39:00]
<homelab-fr> Here is a tutorial on Yunohost on how to install LaSuite: https://souverain.ovh/installer-la-suite-docs-yunohost/
[23:12:11]
<miro5001> Found fiduswriter, will give it a try also
[23:13:09]
<Chatpitaine Caverne> Upgrade shouldn't pass for now.
There is a restoration process for people with failed upgrade here :
https://forum.yunohost.org/t/synapse-restoration-fail-on-pkg-resources-error-linked-to-ldap-auth-plugin/41530
I'm not sure if someone is working on the upgrade failure, hope so.
Fritjof (backupkonto) I was looking for the log of the failed upgrade of Synapse and it seems, we don't have it. If you can find it back, could be useful.
We were concentrated on reparation of your Matrix server...
