[18:53:14] <ChriChri> From fooling around trying to build an app that includes couchdb and the app itself in a way that would make the couchdb install the same as if it already had been installed by the app 'couchdb' (which exists already as its own app package), I think I learned that this is not a good idea (not really a feature of the app system of ynh).

Is there a way to make my app dependend on the already existing couchdb app so that the couchdb app would get installed automatically when my app is installed and the admin would get warned to first de-install my app before installing couchdb when they would try to de-install couchdb?

A pre install message and a check if the couchdb package is installed at the top of the install script?
[20:23:13] <eric_G> > <@Alekswag:matrix.org> wishlist was a mistake

proposed apps should be automatically merged and also automatically removed if there is no vote for them after x days.
[20:25:54] <Yunohost Git/Infra notifications> [apps] @ericgaspar closed [pull request #2082](https://github.com/YunoHost/apps/pull/2082): Add PDFTOCHAT to wishlist
[20:40:05] <Émy - OniriCorpe> > <@ericg:matrix.org> proposed apps should be automatically merged and also automatically removed if there is no vote for them after x days.

Meh, sometimes people are enthusiastic about crappy things
[20:40:31] <Émy - OniriCorpe> Or non compatible stuff
[20:48:59] <Yunohost Git/Infra notifications> [apps] @OniriCorpe deleted branch add-to-wishlist-pdftochat
[21:14:42] <lapineige> > <@ericg:matrix.org> proposed apps should be automatically merged and also automatically removed if there is no vote for them after x days.

Why removing them ?
[21:15:58] <eric_G> A list with too much garbage loses its meaning
[21:28:34] <miro5001> > <@ericg:matrix.org> A list with too much garbage loses its meaning

Effectivement, so we need to encourage users to vote. I don't think a lot of people are voting.
[21:33:11] <eric_G> Voting system works IMO and few apps with highest votes have been packages.
[21:50:26] <eric_G> This is the opinion of someone who has packaged apps that no one knows are in the catalog (myself included) 😅
[21:57:54] <lapineige> > <@ericg:matrix.org> A list with too much garbage loses its meaning

How do we define "garbage" ?
[21:58:33] <lapineige> By the lack of voting ?
[21:58:48] <eric_G> apps with 0 vote
[22:01:46] <ljf> The wishlist is oriented on new app, but i guess there could be a wishlist of quality improvements on current packages.
[22:06:13] <ljf> For example, "config panel for nextcloud_ynh" (yes i know i need to finish it...), improvement on onlyoffice upgrade (don't use the .deb ?), action to remove some artificial limitations, ldap support, specific permissions, better logrotate config, etc.
[22:07:23] <ljf> issues inside package exists, but it's quite difficult to know what is really important for the community.
[22:08:09] <ljf> I guess we could ponderate if an app has a lot of vote, but it's difficult what is very important in each package...
[22:09:00] <ljf> well, I'll stop procrastinating and get back to my accounting.
[22:25:30] <lapineige> > <@ericg:matrix.org> apps with 0 vote

How many people do vote ?
[22:26:27] <lapineige> I don't see the point in making people add apps again and again instead of just filtering by number of votes
[22:30:31] <lapineige> (And how much energy do we want to invest in coding such a system)
[22:34:40] <Émy - OniriCorpe> > How do we define "garbage" ?

by not accepting it in the wishlist at PR stage :P
[22:36:46] <Émy - OniriCorpe> > <@ljf:sans-nuage.fr> issues inside package exists, but it's quite difficult to know what is really important for the community.

everything would be better if package's users themselves contributed more ^^"
[22:37:16] <Émy - OniriCorpe> team "eating my own dogfood"
[22:37:49] <Émy - OniriCorpe> > (And how much energy do we want to invest in coding such a system)

yeah, the actual system is good enough, both for users and for us
[22:38:43] <lapineige> > <@oniricorpe:im.emelyne.eu> by not accepting it in the wishlist at PR stage :P

Yeah, but to me that's for unacceptable stuff, not "non popular one" (that's not garbage, just non-popular)
[22:40:08] <lapineige> > <@oniricorpe:im.emelyne.eu> everything would be better if package's users themselves contributed more ^^"

Thing that will never happen above a certain threshold that is not way higher than current situation
[22:40:40] <lapineige> In particular, most of these improvements are not begginner-friendly
[22:41:04] <Émy - OniriCorpe> > Yeah, but to me that's for unacceptable stuff, not "non popular one" (that's not garbage, just non-popular)

"garbage" isn't "unacceptable things"??
[22:41:24] <Émy - OniriCorpe> "non popular ones" are fine imo
[22:42:02] <Émy - OniriCorpe> if a packager packages stuff and uses it even if it's a non popular thing, it's okay i think
[22:42:45] <Émy - OniriCorpe> i packaged gotosocial while it wasn't popular and now people are obsessed with it x)
[22:42:56] <lapineige> Then why removing non-popular but acceptable stuff from the wishlist ?
[22:44:15] <Émy - OniriCorpe> idk i wasn't arguing for that, but for unacceptable things x)
[22:44:19] <lapineige> > <@oniricorpe:im.emelyne.eu> "garbage" isn't "unacceptable things"??

To me crypto, turbo-dev or techy stuff is most of the time garbage considering our project. Things we won't accept
[22:44:39] <Émy - OniriCorpe> so we better screening them at PR stage tbh
[22:45:27] <Émy - OniriCorpe> > <@oniricorpe:im.emelyne.eu> so we better screening them at PR stage tbh

it's easier than removing them by hand after they were added
[22:46:25] <lapineige> So if apps are acceptable as in not filtered in PR stage (or later on), why removing the one that are not popular enough to get some votes ?
[22:48:00] <lapineige> And why bother taking time and energy developping a mechanism to remove stuff qualified as acceptable from the whishlist, as we could simply not look at the bottom of the list ?
[22:48:30] <Émy - OniriCorpe> 👍️
