[07:27:07] <Maranda> ...But people still think they can run this on light bulb cheap VPS with two shared cores or RPis and pretend to get the same results. So let's say that when Matrix is too slow it's usually PEBCAK.
[07:27:42] <Maranda> Wylel the problem with Matrix latency is due both to the processing intensive nature of the protocol and computing/storage resource requirements for the software server platform and backend. It needs both thread concurrency (to run multiple workers) and performant storage I/O (for the database backend) to offer adeguate performance when scaling either for complex rooms or concurrent users sync'ing.
[07:38:22] *tituspijean fits in that category

I already wondered if I'd have to run a dendrite on an extra sbc, because it seems very slow on my yunohost...
[08:16:48] <Maranda> Well... to be frank, the matrix.org foundation/new vector is also at fault for being overly reluctant to share realistical requirements in the sake of FOSSLY appealing and PR'ing
[09:29:35] <ChriChri> Does anybody know where the `BEGIN:` and `END:` comments in rainloop.user.sieve come from? I'd like to convert a migrated filterfile to be part of the filter that can be edited in rainloop with the simple interface.

Given rainloop is dead is this a thing that can be forward-ported to snappymail?
[09:32:36] <ChriChri> > Given rainloop is dead is this a thing that can be forward-ported to snappymail?

Ups, sorry, the filename still is rainloop.user.sieve, but the file is for sure generated by snappymail - I do not use rainloop.

This is such a wild statement. I have only ever used matrix.org and I am having these issues (and have for a while). I am not saying this doesnt happen, and I can only imagine (by having these issues on matrix.org) that running Synapse on a "light bulb cheap VPS" would be like dividing by zero.
[12:42:26] <Wylel> Unless you mean running Element on the VPS, and in that case my lightbulb cheap VPS runs Element better than my Pixel 7 and iPhone 13
[12:52:49] <Maranda> Wylel nothing wild just plain facts, Element also runs on your client not on the server. Said that if you think matrix.org is slow never move from there because despite the load it's still out of probability one of the responsive, if not the most at all, service out there.

[12:53:59] <Wylel> Thats why I went for Synapse and not Element, but wanted to throw that in there. I can join large rooms, or successfully leave them, far faster on my computer than the apps.
[12:54:33] <Wylel> The last time I heard, wasnt Synapse suppose to be completely rewritten like years ago?
[12:58:48] <Maranda> Wylel Synapse was supposed to be replaced by Dendrite, but they found out that despite years passed the former still works better (and is more complete protocol wise) than the latter which is barely usable, so considering the leading author also dropped the bail I think the time I'll actually see Synapse being replaced I'll start havin' gray hair popping out.

[13:06:40] <marclaporte> There is activity: https://github.com/matrix-org/dendrite/commits/main
[13:07:53] *Maranda coughs: https://github.com/matrix-org/synapse/commits/develop

Well I am already almost all gray, so not holding out hope lol.
[13:13:03] <Wylel> Either way, thats my main complaint, and that is someone that does not want to self host an IRC server or Synapse, and do not plan to.
[13:14:29] <Wylel> However, if Element could function as a full featured IRC client alongside being a Matrix client, that would just be the best of all worlds.
[13:26:18] <marclaporte> Ah yes, activity is still higher on Synapse so they may never catch up... Thank you for the jnfo.
[15:27:34] <hueso> just use XMPP
[17:53:42] <Salamandar> My name is Félix and a friend that has access to my Jellyfin server joked about using "NetFélix", so… this is done
