[04:55:02] <jrkb> > How did you test it ? Where does Pixelfed send an email ?

if you have email confirmation enabled for account creation, it sends an email. i guess also for password reset :) i noticed the issue when i tried to create my first account and the confirmation email didn't go through. it is possibly fixed with 11.2 (the upgrade on my server went perfectly btw)
[04:58:54] <jrkb> sending an email with pixelfed did not work out of the box either (similar issue with mastodon). It was fixed by doing this:

```
$ yunhost app shell pixelfed #
pixelfed@host $ nano .env # then adjust mail part
pixelfed@host $ cat .env | grep MAIL # show settings that worked
[...]
MAIL_DRIVER=sendmail
MAIL_HOST=localhost
MAIL_PORT=25
MAIL_USERNAME=null
MAIL_PASSWORD=null
MAIL_ENCRYPTION=null
MAIL_FROM_ADDRESS="pixelfed@pixel.host"
MAIL_FROM_NAME="Pixelfed"
[...]
pixelfed@host $ php artisan config:cache # reload settings
```

`MAIL_DRIVER` was set to `smtp` before, but didn't work. is this a bug, or specific bad luck with my setup? I wonder if I should submit a PR somewhere or just be happy that it works for me now

[edit: replace `vi` with `nano` to not accidentally trap people in `vi` :-D]
[05:38:32] <jrkb> i did open an [issue on github](https://github.com/YunoHost-Apps/pixelfed_ynh/issues/228), with two proposals for a solution :)
[05:46:32] <jrkb> Aleks (he/him/il/lui): do you know if the mail port should be `25` or `587` when following [this](https://yunohost.org/fr/packaging_apps_resources#system-user)?
[06:06:53] <jrkb> just discovered that there are dedicated chat rooms for app packaging... i will ask there :)
[06:14:01] <fch> > just discovered that there are dedicated chat rooms for app packaging... i will ask there :)
share a link

It's not, we didn't change the packaging

https://yunohost.org/en/chat_rooms
[06:19:14] <lapineige> > just discovered that there are dedicated chat rooms for app packaging... i will ask there :)

I propose we switch to github instead, it's best to keep an easily accessible track of this :)
[07:33:08] <hi> hi
[08:15:49] <lapineige> > Aleks (he/him/il/lui): do you know if the mail port should be `25` or `587` when following [this](https://yunohost.org/fr/packaging_apps_resources#system-user)?

And what is the difference ?
[10:01:28] <jrkb> wild question: would you think yunohost is stable/secure/scalable enough for a setup with around 500 users? (dreaming of kinda underground community as an alternative to msteams at my art academy)
[10:06:11] <orhtej2> > wild question: would you think yunohost is stable/secure/scalable enough for a setup with around 500 users? (dreaming of kinda underground community as an alternative to msteams at my art academy)

I'm hoping it's mature/secure enough to host my personal instance and I don't see any core scaling issues. probably depends on what are the specs of host and what apps are you planning to install
[10:06:27] <orhtej2> less apps = better performance & reduced attack surface
[10:24:35] <jrkb> makes sense, then i'll just try it out with a smaller group and incrementally let it grow
[10:51:30] <tituspijean> > wild question: would you think yunohost is stable/secure/scalable enough for a setup with around 500 users? (dreaming of kinda underground community as an alternative to msteams at my art academy)

Stable: yes

Secure: Depends on your threat model

Scalable: meh, YunoHost is built as a monolith. You could split services among multiple YunoHost servers or/and use a reverse proxy.

🙂 Josué compile l'app lui-même il me semble. https://github.com/yunohost-apps/synapse_ynh

[18:31:37] <dmytroframe> hi
[18:31:50] <dmytroframe> how this works?
[18:32:58] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> by asking questions with context, details and full logs
[18:34:53] <Lars (Fulda.social)> Hello, is it possible to fix some issues with Synapse installed with Yunohost?

https://matrix.domain.tld/_matrix/cas_server.php/login as Login URL is invalid. Where can i See the correct URL?
[18:35:32] <Lars (Fulda.social)> And i cant search on matrix.org or other Server for rooms.
[18:36:12] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> did you check the README regarding federation etc : https://github.com/YunoHost-Apps/synapse_ynh#access-by-federation
[18:45:11] <tituspijean> as-tu un lien ? (ah, trouvé: https://forum.yunohost.org/t/synapse-instant-messaging-server-matrix-network/4381/141?u=tituspijean)
[18:50:23] <Lars (Fulda.social)> > <@Alekswag:matrix.org> did you check the README regarding federation etc : https://github.com/YunoHost-Apps/synapse_ynh#access-by-federation

What i must Set with with command. yunohost app setting SYNAPSE_INSTANCE_NAME synapse_tls_port

[18:51:38] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> you don't set anything with this command, the README explains that this is to get the value that you need to define in the DNS records
[18:51:51] <Lars (Fulda.social)> Okay thx
[19:04:56] <Lars (Fulda.social)> Aleks (he/him/il/lui): i got this at the Logs 2023-07-20 21:01:30,314 - synapse.http.matrixfederationclient - 780 - WARNING - POST-2724- {POST-O-55} [matrix.org] Request failed: POST matrix-federation://matrix.org/_matrix/federation/v1/publicRooms: HttpResponseException('401: Unauthorized')
[19:20:52] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> .. but did you set the DNS record ...
[19:24:08] <Lars (Fulda.social)> Yes. But currently the federation Tester lookup to the wrong Domain. https://federationtester.matrix.org/#fulda.social
[19:24:35] <Lars (Fulda.social)> But at mxtoolbox lookup to the correct Domain

[20:01:35] <ewilly88> hi guys,
i am truing to fix one of my app to make it compabilte betwwen bullseye and bookworm. Is there already a way to start a ci test against bookworm similare to "!tesme" ?
[20:52:35] <Tag> > <@ewilly88:matrix.org> hi guys,

Not yet :/
[20:52:57] <Tag> You can run your own CI, if your confortable with it
[21:40:54] <lapineige> > wild question: would you think yunohost is stable/secure/scalable enough for a setup with around 500 users? (dreaming of kinda underground community as an alternative to msteams at my art academy)

There is almost no tool to batch manage users, that might be an issue
[21:41:20] <lapineige> And the scaling part depends on your apps, and user activity
[22:14:38] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> (the user import/export feature kind of allow batch edit but not as practical as something integrated directly in the UI)
[22:29:14] <thatoo> https://forum.yunohost.org/t/synapse-instant-messaging-server-matrix-network/4381/140
[22:53:30] <Professor Nope> Hello, quick question. I have yunohost on a VM and was wondering about it's performance specifically with Synapse. When scrolling up to see past comments, the client will lag. Other times, the client will say "Connection Lost to Server" and reconnect after 10~20 seconds. Don't know if this is normal behavior or if there is a way to improve performance on Synapse. I am using Element as my client.
[23:05:23] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> could be because your server is overloaded
[23:06:32] <Professor Nope> How would I confirm if it's overloaded? SSH into it and check top?
[23:07:05] <Professor Nope> VM metrics show cpu hovering around 25% and Ram about 50%.
[23:08:02] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> yup, looking at metrics
[23:10:38] <Professor Nope> Is it ok to install other software like htop? I don't want to break it on the first day.
[23:13:13] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> Yes small utilities like htop are just fine
[23:13:39] <Professor Nope> Awesome, thank you for the help.
