[08:53:38] <Tag> It should be in /etc/network/interfaces, as debian does
[08:53:56] <Chatpitaine Caverne> Hello, IPv6 question.

I modified my static IPv6 through `/etc/dhcpcd.conf` cause it doesn't seem to be anymore in `/etc/network/interfaces`.
But now, the diag says I have No IPv6 address and I should remove it from the DNS records. While `ip -c address` says I have one.

What is the correct way to put a static IPv6 (and v4, by the way) inside yunohost ? I'm loosing my way.
Thank you.
[08:55:09] <Tag> You should have a "iface eth0 inet static" block or something
[08:56:46] <Chatpitaine Caverne> I saw that indeed : https://yunohost.org/fr/ipv6
But Yunohost seems to use the dhcpcd system to attribute ip now. Or maybe I'm confused. Interfaces is almost empty. I thought it was depreciated.
[08:59:25] <Tag> Can you share your /etc/network/interfaces ?
[09:06:25] <Chatpitaine Caverne> ```
cat /etc/network/interfaces
# interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
# Include files from /etc/network/interfaces.d:
source /etc/network/interfaces.d/*
```
And /etc/network/interfaces.d is empty.
[09:41:34] <Tag> Strange. How did you install yunohost ? ISO, debian then curl | bash ?
[09:42:28] <Chatpitaine Caverne> That's a long time ago, now, but it was with ISO on my RPI4B.
[09:47:12] <Chatpitaine Caverne> I got to move out for about 1h. Sorry.
[13:24:03] <lapineige> > <hook> I’m looking at https://yunohost.org/en/external_storage
> … if I’m using Btrfs subvolumes, do I still need to use `--bind`?
Can you clarify what you intend to do ?
[14:44:45] <aekone_> Hi guys! Do someone use ynh to download nzb from Usenet? There is no downloader yet. How do you do? Thx
[14:45:37] <orhtej2> SABnzbd is already on [the wishlist](https://apps.yunohost.org/wishlist), contributions welcome!
[15:44:31] <Anmol> So, I want to add a another small ssd on with the main ssd. I have never used btrf or XFS with LVM. Are there benefits of using these files system with LVM? I am thinking of making 2 partitions on it one for swap and other for jellefin buffering.
[15:44:34] <hook> > Can you clarify what you intend to do ?
(c’est acompli 😇)
I was adding an HDD (soon to be a Btrfs RAID1) to YuNoHost and mounted its `@ynh_backup` subvolume to `/home/yunohost.backup` and `@borg_backups` subvolume to `/home/borgwarehouse`
[15:45:21] <Anmol> Can I use the redis caching on the external ssd?
[15:45:23] <hook> Anmol, I only have experience with Btrfs, but don’t see any reason to put it behind LVM. Btrfs can already handle (sub)volumes itself.
[15:46:45] <Anmol> > <hook> Anmol, I only have experience with Btrfs, but don’t see any reason to put it behind LVM. Btrfs can already handle (sub)volumes itself.
Ok, are there performance improvements? I heard lot about it. Though I have started it on my laptop os, but its been few days only.
[15:50:32] <hook> > Ok, are there performance improvements? I heard lot about it. Though I have started it on my laptop os, but its been few days only.
Anmol, I didn’t look that much into performance. What I use Btrfs for (and I’m far from a FS expert!) is its COW (copy-on-write) capability, snapshots and different policies for snapshots for different subvolumes, and setting them up into Btrfs RAID1 to easy-ish recovery from a dead drive.
[15:53:41] <Anmol> I really like the snapshots feature, it has really saved me. I broke my os last week and going back to previous snapshot was easy from grub option. It saved me time and lot of work.
[15:58:13] <hook> Anmol, Why would you use LVM underneath Btrfs or XFS?
[16:01:39] <Anmol> > <hook> Anmol, Why would you use LVM underneath Btrfs or XFS?
😅 Because I did not knew btrfs can handle sub-volumes. I have backup hdd on btrfs with lvm now. 🤪
[16:01:40] <Anmol> I will be careful about this next time.
[16:02:00] <hook> 😅
[16:03:03] <hook> It does it a bit differently than LVM though. In Btrfs a subvolume, by default has no size limit. You can (optionally) set up a size quota.
[16:04:30] <hook> pro: not having to worry about resizing the (sub)volumes later on
contra: if you forgot to set up a quota and did not keep an eye on it yourself, a subvolume can fill up the whole drive.
[16:05:09] <hook> You can always set up a quota for it later on, or just not fill up your disk with junk, but that’s a big practical difference between Btrfs subvolumes and LVM volumes.
[16:05:46] <hook> And, of course, a Btrfs subvolume always uses Btrfs as the file system.
[16:17:06] <Anmol> Great I there are few take aways here. Thanks for the info.
[16:35:39] <hook> Is it just me or does Diagnosis in YuNoHost WebUI take much much longer then a week or two ago?
[16:35:53] <hook> (both on stable 11)
[16:38:27] <hook> How many days before the domain expiry should YuNoHost Diagnosis warn me about it?
[16:39:30] <hook> > Is it just me or does Diagnosis in YuNoHost WebUI take much much longer then a week or two ago?
It took about 8 minutes right now on a system with Ryzen 5 and 32 GB RAM.
[16:46:17] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> any specific step is taking longer than the other ...?
[17:25:31] <Paprika> Is there an issue with the Time Machine package? It seems to fail to install.
`Can't load /etc/samba/smb.conf - run testparm to debug it`
Seems like an issue with Samba. Is there an issue with Samba?
[18:07:40] <Sushi> Bonjour, sur une fresh install d'un VM VirtualBox sur macOS, apres reboot je n'arrive plus a me connecter via yunohost.local (mais ca marche via IP), j'ai parcuru le forum mais rien trouvé de concluant... Est-ce que quelqu'un aurait une idee ?
[18:09:03] <Sushi> https://paste.yunohost.org/raw/upebuguxuq si ca peut aider
[18:09:08] <@err404:matrix.numericore.com> dans ce cas c'est un probleme avec le dns de ton ordi je suppose
[18:10:04] <Sushi> j'utilise pihole comme DNS et j'ai bien mis l'entree dans local DNS records mais au premier demarrage je n'en avais pas eu besoin
[18:10:53] <@err404:matrix.numericore.com> dans un terminal tu peux tenter un `dig yunohost.local` et voir quel est le serveur dns qui te répond
[18:12:24] <Sushi> sushi@Yakuru ~ % dig yunohost.local
[18:14:53] <Sushi> le reseau dans VirtualBox est en mode pont, il a son IP..
[18:32:38] <Sushi> C’est bien le,pihole qui répond et c’est la bonne IP
[18:33:18] <Sushi> et donc en consequence je n'ai plus acces aux apps du tout via leur .local 🫤
[18:58:44] <lapineige> > <@anmol:im.anmol.net.in> So, I want to add a another small ssd on with the main ssd. I have never used btrf or XFS with LVM. Are there benefits of using these files system with LVM? I am thinking of making 2 partitions on it one for swap and other for jellefin buffering.
The partitioning part is redundant with LVM. I don't remember in which scenario it's better to use one or the other (I think it's Btrfs only, use it, if it's btrfs + something else, use LVM). Other Btrfs benefits still apply.
[19:04:24] <hook> > any specific step is taking longer than the other ...?
Aleks (he/him/il/lui) , from the CLI it now took 23 s, which sounds fine.
[19:09:48] <hook> Re-running test by test through the WebUI and the DNS Diagnosis seems to take a bit long (i.e. minutes)
[19:10:26] <hook> It says “Waiting for server’s response” and the pacman is going back and forth.
[19:10:31] <Aleks (he/him/il/lui)> could be that you have an usual number of domains to test
[19:11:03] <hook> All other tests went fine
[19:11:36] <hook> 17 domains in total
[19:11:59] <hook> …and the CLI diagnosis took only 23s for all of it. 🤷‍♂️
[19:29:20] <lapineige> > <@anmol:im.anmol.net.in> Ok, are there performance improvements? I heard lot about it. Though I have started it on my laptop os, but its been few days only.
Compression brings some benefits on files that can be compressed well, and if the drive isn't fast enough (if (de)compression is faster than the drive).
But appart from that its generaly slower as a filesystem
[19:30:25] <lapineige> > <hook> It does it a bit differently than LVM though. In Btrfs a subvolume, by default has no size limit. You can (optionally) set up a size quota.
(Quota have very serious performance issues by the way)
[19:33:03] <hook> lapineige, hmmm, on a NAS-type HDD that hosts only compressed archives from backups, does it make sense to run compression in Btrfs as well, or is that just silly waste of resources?
[19:57:03] <lapineige> It won't waste much ressources. There is an heuristic to not compress files that are already impossible to compress (basically it tries to compress a first small part, if it has no benefits, then it stops). Yet obvisouly it adds a (very little) overhead.
[19:59:27] <hook> lapineige, Thanks, that’s reassuring :)
[20:22:31] <lapineige> On the other hand, it will bring benefits for any data that can be compressed, but on such a server the storage space saved it likely to be insignificant
